Darchinyan Punishes Arce, Wins by Knockout

Vic Darchinyan pummeled Jorge Arce en route to a dominating victory Saturday night. The fight was stopped after the 11th round by the ringside physician, who decided that Arce had had enough. It was a good stoppage, as Arce's offense had been completely nullified, his face was a bloody mess and Darchinyan's thudding shots were landing with great accuracy and with frightful force. Margarito Temporarily Suspended After Hand Wrap Incident

This past Saturday night on HBO Boxing, there was a bigger story than Antonio Margarito losing his welterweight championship to Shane Mosley- the illegal hand wrapping attempt by Antonio Margarito and his corner. The California State Athletic Commission immediately began an investigation into the hand wraps and what was contained in them or placed on them. More... »

Is Oscar De La Hoya Going to Retire?

Following the worst fight of his career, a onesided beatdown at the hands of Manny Pacquiao, the question on many minds has been will Oscar De La Hoya retire from boxing? If De La Hoya did retire, it would mark the end of a lengthy chapter in the annals of the sport. Not just the end of a career that spanned six weight classes and brought home many championships, but more importantly, the end of a career that was the most lucrative in the history of the sport. Will Floyd Mayweather Fight Manny Pacquiao?

Besides the possible retirement of Oscar De La Hoya one of the other questions on the minds of boxing enthusiasts is whether or not Floyd Mayweather will return from his retirement. The undefeated former pound for pound champion left the sport on a high note, winning Fighter of the Year after besting both Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton in 2007. More... »

Berto Collazo Preview Prediction

The Andre Berto and Luis Collazo Welterweight Title fight will take place on January 17, 2009 in Mississippi. Andre Berto has long been viewed as one of the most talented up and coming fighters in any division in boxing. He has an unmatched blend of speed, power and athleticism. However, despite being the WBC Welterweight Champion, he has been largely untested through this point of his career. Enter Luis Collazo, former welterweight titleholder. More... »

Pacquiao De La Hoya – Pacquiao Knocks out Oscar De La Hoya!

I can officially say that I am surprised and humbled by the TKO victory for Manny Pacquiao over Oscar De La Hoya. Let's get this straight right now if you didn't see the fight: this wasn't a close, back and forth battle that eventually went to the younger lion. This was a complete and utter domination by the energetic, youthful, speedy and powerful Manny Pacquiao over the aged, slow and trigger-shy Oscar De La Hoya. More... »

De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao Preview and Prediction

The super fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao is finally upon us, so it's time for my official preview and prediction. Some in the boxing world have looked at this fight with a bit (or a lot) of skepticism, as De La Hoya is a much larger man than Manny Pacquiao has ever faced. Pacquiao has only fought once at a weight higher than 130 lbs, while Oscar De La Hoya has fought as high as 160 lbs and has recently been campaigning at 154 lbs.  More... »

Hatton TKOs Game but Overmatched Malignaggi

Well, I must say that the Ricky Hatton vs. Paulie Malignaggi fight went largely as I predicted in my post several days ago. The only thing that messed it up some was that Buddy McGirt took it into his own hands to throw in the towel and end the fight for his game fighter in the 11th round. More... »

Vic Darchinyan Crushes and Knocks Out Christian Mijares

What a great boxing title fight and unification showdown we got to witness tonight! Vic Darchinyan vs. Christian Mijares had all of the making of a unique style match-up. The slick and defensive boxer puncher in Mijares against the all out, wild swinging, power puncher in Darchinyan. But I think very few people predicted this kind of outcome.

From the opening bell it was clear that this was a different Vic Darchinyan than we've been used to seeing. After suffering a knockout loss against Nonito Donaire, Vic definitely got back into the gym and put his work in. It's a testament to his ability and his work ethic that he was able to retool himself and incorporate better form, more effort, crisper shots and sounder fundamentals. More... »

Explaining the Librado Andrade and Lucian Bute Controversy

If you have seen the Librado Andrade versus Lucian Bute fight that was shown on Showtime recently, you've heard a lot from the announcing crew and the reporting since about the controversy surrounding it. If you haven't seen it, here's the break down: Bute was easily winning the fight by out-boxing Andrade and landing cleaner shots.

However, as the fight wore on, Bute started to become more tired as Andrade started to apply more pressure. More... »

Povetkin should be thankful for injury and Klitschko fight postponement

I'm a fan of Alexander Povetkin. He fights hard, he is willing to exchange and he has some solid skills. He's not the hardest puncher but he stays very active. He's not the fastest guy but he swarms you and gets in your face. He's a blue collar fighter, and in his young career he has shown the confidence and willingness to step up and face the biggest challenges after only a tiny amount of fights.

After plowing his way through some fellow "contenders" in the sad state of the 2008 heavyweight division of boxing, Povetkin was lined up for his title shot against Wladimir Klitschko. More... »
