Fighters in training often struggle with the best ways to build muscle for boxing. Strength exercises for boxing have to be different than strength exercises for other athletes. In boxing, a fighter's flexibility and lean muscle mass are extremely important, whereas you don't want to just pack on tons of extra muscle.
One of the best strength training exercises for boxing is the pull up, and it's close cousin, the chin up. Both of these are body weight exercises, meaning you aren't relying on extra weights or machines, you are building strength through working out with your own body weight. This applies great to boxing, and will help you add tons of functional strength to use in the ring, without bulking you up too much or slowing you down. More... »

A speed bag is one of the most classic symbols of a boxer in training, and learning to use a speed bag can be a slow and frustrating process. Training with a speed bag definitely comes with a learning curve. So one of the most important things right from the beginning is to accept that you aren't going to appear like Sugar Ray Leonard in your first training session. But if you take some time, you'll be making that sweet speed bag music (the intense drumming rhythm of you striking the bag and the bag bouncing off its support) in no time. More... »

But yet, watching any experienced boxer or trainer do it and you will see it's second nature, they almost don't even pay attention. In truth, there's no magic, better than everything else way of wrapping your hands for boxing. Every trainer out there will swear his way is the best. (Some professional boxers with histories of hand injuries even seek out hand wrapping gurus who do things in just the right way to protect their hands better, or at least make them feel that way).

Meet your maker: the medicine ball
So you want to be a better boxer? You're looking for boxing training tips, right? That means hours upon hours of working on the fundamentals and honing the craft and art of boxing. Shadow boxing in front of the mirror for technique and strategy. Working on the heavy bag to actually practice hitting and adding power, while putting your techniques into motion. Hitting the mitts to have real, moving targets. Sparring to work on your defense, your conditioning and putting it all together.
On and on you go, those are all boxing exercises. You are improving your boxing, through boxing. Pretty simple. But there's more to it than that if you really want to be a better boxer. I wouldn't be doling out very useful boxing training tips if all I said was, go and box some more! More... »
